Version 1.0
1999-07-02
Edited by Ole Husby, BIBSYS (ole.husby@bibsys.no)
Updated 2002-03-07 by Ole Husby: Corrected link to
the CENL profile.
This profile is based on the
"Z39.50 BIB-1 attribute set profile for CENL" ([1]).
Only sections where changes to this profile are needed will be present in this
draft.
The profile is based on agreements within NorZIG:
Norwegian Z39.50 Interest Group.
Purpose
Chapter 1 in [1] will have to be reformulated
to reflect the assumption that has not been made explicit, that this
profile will apply to "library catalogues" in Norway - or a similar
statement.
Terminology
In [1] chapter 3, the table of attribute combinations
defined for this profile should be replaced by the following:

USE |
STRUCTURE |

Author (U) | 1003 | 102 |
Personal author | 1004 | 101 |

Local number | 12 | 2 |
Record syntax
Chapter 4.4 in [1] should be replaced by the following:
An origin system must support all the following record syntaxes:
NORMARC, USMARC and SUTRS.
If an origin accepts detailed holdings data, it must be capable of
receiving them in the form specified in the recommendation currently
under development in the Z3950 Implementor's Group [4].
It is recommended that an origin should be capable of receiving summary
location/holdings data as specified in [3].
A target system must support the following syntaxes: NORMARC, USMARC
and SUTRS. A target must be able to present summary location/holdings data
as specified in [3].
Detailed holdings - if available - must be supplied according to the
recommendation currently under development in the Z3950 Implementor's
Group [4].
Origin requirements
Chapter 5.1.1 in [1] should be replaced
by the following:
An origin must be able to formulate a type-1 query with a single operand
consisting of an attribute combination and term, for each of the
following attribute combinations as defined in section 3:
- Author (N),
- Title word,
- Subject word,
- ISBN,
- ISSN,
- Year
Target requirements
Chapter 5.2 in [1] should be replaced
by the following:
The requirements in [2] section 5.2 apply without
restrictions, and with the following additions:
- A target must be able to support a type-1 query with a single operand
consisting of an attribute combination and term, for each of the following
attribute combinations as defined in section 3:
- Author (N),
- Personal author,
- Corporate author,
- Title word,
- Series title,
- Subject word,
- Any,
- ISBN,
- ISSN,
- Year,
- Local number
- The requirement to support an attribute combination is not absolute,
but should only apply in the case when the corresponding data types
are present in the database. If not, the target should
fail the search, and return a diagnostic from the BIB-1 diagnostic set, 114:
"Unsupported use attribute".
- The target may choose to support Year only in Boolean queries, and only in
combination with other use attributes. When the target receives a query
consisting of only Year terms, it may return the diagnostic from the
BIB-1 attribute set, 3: "Unsupported search".
- For all the attribute combinations defined in this profile, the target
must apply the the following default values for the remaining BIB-1 attributes:
For Relation: "Equal" (3)
For Position: "Any position in field" (3)
For Truncation: "Do not truncate" (100)
For Completeness: " Incomplete subfield" (1)
- The target must in addition support the Truncation attributes "Right truncation" (1)
and "Process # in search term" (101)
